After the tinsel fades...

I took my christmas tree down yesterday. I know that most everyone else in the world that put up a tree most likely has already taken it down by Jan. 6 or so...but I hate to take it down. You know the feeling you get when the walls are bare, the presents are open and being used or used up, and the last of the hard tack candy is stuck to the corner of the candy dish.

The snow is falling, but christmas is over. The snow is falling, but the eggnog is gone. The snow is falling, but I find myself wishing the magic of Christmas could stay with me all year.

Felis navidad to all!

Dream becomes reality

It is amazing to me that the show at the Salvation Army came together - from beginning to start - in less than two weeks! I still become so happy and excited because so many of my new friends on myspace have become day to day friends and were so supportive of me and CT Productions in order to pull this off as well as have everyone (160 people in all) participating in the event happy and pleased they were a part of it.
Thanks to everyone that helped with this event: from the posters, the corps volunteers, to the advertising by word of mouth, to the way you respected the location and the staff at the event; I'm so grateful to all of you. Thanks to the sound techs., Last Tuesday, The New Ending, Staple and Clearview for putting on great shows as well as hanging out with the fans throughout the night. All in all, I think that Jan 22, 2006 will be in my memory one of the best days since I transferred to Warren, PA.
Also, thanks to all the cooke and brownie bakers - that sugar came just at the right time! I also want to thank God for working out all the things unseen and seen. What a blessing and opportunity you have given to our church and community.
Have a great day my friends, and until next time...ROCK ON!

It's Monday Morning

It's easy to hear the alarm go off on Monday morning and groan I can't believe the weekend's gone! But what if -- just for a change -- everyone said Wow, another week of great opportunities! Do you think it would make a difference?

Cat and Mouse Game

We have a rodent problem at Experiment House. Every night a mouse gets into the same exact kitchen cupboard. Lamont responds with a variety of traps, each one more deadly than the last, but every sunrise we find the cheese gone and the trap unsprung.

This morning Lamont, dressed in leopard-print pajamas, discovered that the mouse had once again outwitted her latest scheme. Suddenly the whole setup struck me as funny -- the backfiring traps, the invincible rodent, even Lamont unknowingly representing a feline -- really, isn't the scenario something straight out of a thousand Tom and Jerry cartoons?

As this cat-and-mouse game continues Lamont better start wearing some protective headgear: I expect an ACME-brand anvil to fall out of the sky at any moment.

Wittenburg Door #203

Confession time: I used to admire Pat Robertson. I was a media obsessed Pentecostal kid growing up in Warren, Pennsylvania and what he was doing with The 700 Club in the seventies and eighties seemed amazing. I loved the idea of combining the Christian message with the TV newsmagize format. (Yes, writing that last line made me smirk.)

I do occasionally turn on the program these days, but it's changed so much that I barely recognize it. The newsmagazine format is still there, but the whole philosophy behind the program has changed. Maybe it was always there and I lost my naivete on the way to adulthood. It just seemed like the theme of the program used to be God changes lives. Its current theme appears to be keep Christians in a constant state of panic.

Whether it's a natural disaster, politics, or culture, Pat Robertson will be there with his commentary which can be summed up as: BE AFRAID. After the Chavez fiasco, I wrote up a satire piece about this constant crisis mentality and it appears this month in The Wittenburg Door, issue #203.

In case you've never heard of it, The Wittenburg Door is "the world's pretty much only religious satire magazine." It has been delighting and/or horrifying readers since 1971. You can find subscription info by clicking here. The magazine also publishes a free biweekly newsletter that you can sign up for here.
